Rainstorm kills two, injures many in Bauchi

…Over 500 houses destroyed

AT LEAST two people were killed while over 10 were injured during a rainstorm that wreaked havoc in Misau, Misau Local Government Area of Bauchi State, on Tuesday.

  Over 500 houses were also destroyed in the carnage.

  Residents said many houses in the town had their fences pulled down, roofs blown off and some buildings completely collapsed during the disaster.

  While 10 persons injured during the incident were taken to Misau General Hospital, two victims including a pregnant woman, were rushed to Federal Medical Center (FMC), Azare.

  Confirming the disaster to journalists in Bauchi, yesterday, Caretaker Chairman of Misau Local Government Area, Salisu Hussain Hardawa, lamented that properties worth millions of naira were equally lost.

  According to him, many households have been rendered homeless.

  He called on federal government to come to their aid with relief packages that will assist the people in minimising difficulties inflicted on them by the environmental mishap.

  Hardawa informed that While empathising with the victims, Hardawa said the state governor, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to immediately assess the situation.

  The caretaker chairman appealed to the state government to intervene and provide relief materials for victims to cushion the effect of the unfortunate incident.
