FCC Oji River, holds S’East schools’ quiz

THE 2023 edition of the annual quiz competition for senior secondary school students in the Southeast is currently ongoing at the auditorium of the Federal Cooperative College, Oji River, Enugu State, Nigeria.

  The annual quiz competition, tagged:’2023 FCCO Brain Spark Quiz Competition For Senior Secondary Schools’ is aimed at helping the students to deploy their intelligence and brilliance in their respective subject areas and also help them to develop academically while they savour the tranquility and serenity of the Federal Cooperative College, Oji River.

  Addressing students and their teachers prior to declaring the contest officially opened, provost of the college, Owan Obodoagu Tonica, said it was part of the social responsibility scheme of the institution to associate with her host communities in the Southeast. This, he said, was one of the remote reasons for the quiz competition for secondary schools in the area.

  The provost equally stated that through such platforms, the college management would be able to determine the level of awareness and the extent to which they know the school exist as catchment area where they could also pursue tertiary education without stress of strike actions and other debilitating factors.

  The provost stated that the quiz competition is being organised on a yearly basis. He said seeking admission into higher institutions is very difficult these days but the Federal Cooperative College, Oji River, has an advantage because year of graduation for every student is valid and sacrosanct.

  He said such exercises were used to sell the college to her host communities and that the level of awareness has increased since the college began the quiz competition for secondary schools in the area. The provost opined that there are three Cooperative Colleges in the country owned by the federal government.

  Dr. Owan said one is in Kaduna State, another is in Ibadan, Oyo State, while the third is the Federal Cooperative College, Oji River,Enugu State, serving the Southeast and South-South respectively. He therefore wished the contestants well and urged them to always adopt positive thinking and not allow wrong influence to truncate their dreams and aspirations.

  Coordinator of the 2023 Brain Spark Quiz Competition For Secondary Schools in the Southeast, Obinna Ezeano, who stated that the quiz competition was solely sponsored by the provost of the college, maintained that the exercise prepared the students for their forthcoming School Certificate Examinations and JAMB examinations too.

  Mr. Ezeano also pointed out that the programme helps to expose people to the facilities at the Federal Cooperative College, Oji River. He said about 28 secondary schools were participating in this year’s quiz competition and that there are prizes to be won.

 According to Ezeano, the participating secondary schools were drawn from the Southeast Geopolitical Zone, adding that the 2023 edition is the third year in succession.

  One of the teachers who brought in students from Royal Saints International School, Achi, for the quiz competition, Mr. Kenechukwu Chukwudi, commended the provost and the entire college management for organising the programme.
