Anambra lawmaker gives 10-year-old girl
education scholarship after father’s death
LAWMAKER, representing Awka-South 2 State Constituency in the 7th legislature of Anambra State, Chukwuma Pius Okoye has undertaken to sponsor the daughter of a widow from J.S.S 1 to S.S 3, to help the poor little girl actualise her dreams and aspirations.
Speaking to journalists at Amawbia Town Hall, in Awka-South Local Government Area on why he chose to place the young lass on scholarship, Okoye said he was touched by the little girl’s intelligence and intrepidity when she was called upon to say the opening prayer at the APGA campaign rally held at Amawbia Town Hall, at the weekend.
The lawmaker said that the little girl has an exceptional brilliance and should not be allowed to waste away; that he would ensure that the primary 6 young Jennifer Onu gets the very best of education and solid foundation.
The lawmaker said: ” She is intelligent. She lost her father few months ago and she no longer goes to school. I will ensure that after her secondary school education, she will go further to acquire higher education. “
Okoye, who stated that the public declaration he made at the APGA rally to undertake full scale scholarship for little Miss Jennifer Onu was not mere political statements because it is in his nature to uplift humanity through undiluted philanthropy.
He said he has been uplifting humanity through various empowerment programmes as a private person before he ventured into politics and that currently, he has more than 20 students he pays their school fees every year. That he has also produced over 18 graduates from his free education programmes.
Okoye, who is currently seeking a second term to represent Awka-South 2 State Constituency, assured that if elected into office, he would extend his hands further into the streets to source for children with exceptional talents and give them good life through quality education.
Responding, the mother of Miss Jennifer Onu, Mrs. Chinenye Onu, who is an active member of Amawbia Ward 1 of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), said she lost her husband in July last year and that ever since, things have been difficult for her.
Mrs. Onu, who stated that the lawmaker assisted financially during the burial of her late husband on 31st August, last year, maintained that the lawmaker is filled with the milk of human kindness and benevolence. She therefore thanked the lawmaker for extending a hand of Olive to her daughter, saying that the lawmaker would be successful at the polls.
Meanwhile, little Miss Jennifer Onu, in an emotion-ladened voice and with tears of joy flowing down from her eyes, prayed for Chukwuma Pius Okoye, saying that he would win his second term election into the House of Assembly to represent Awka-South 2 again.
