SECOND Niger Bridge will be closed for public use from Sunday, January 15.
Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, stated this in a statement issued in Abuja, yesterday.
Appealing for road users’ patience and understanding, the minister explained that the closure is being imposed to allow continuation of yet-to-be-completed work on access roads to the bridge.
According to the release which was signed by Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Works and Housing, Folorunso Esan, the order also affects Lagos-Ibadan Expressway (from OPIC to the Old Toll Gate) and Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Expressway (around Kawo on Kaduna-Zaria Section.
The release further directed contractors on major highways to restore all barricades at the sites mounted during the Yuletide season.
It will be recalled that barricades were removed at all construction sites on December 15, 2022, for ease of movement to reduce travel time during the Christmas season.
