I see development yearning for expression in Nawgu – Nwegwu

My victory is about enshrining the peaceful coexistence and progressive development of Nawgu. We are a wonderful people, progressive in nature but need further thrust to accelerate our yearnings for a better future.

The newly elected president-general of Nawgu Development Union (NDU), Prince Frank Okwudili Nwegwu stated this after emerging victorious at the peaceful and keenly contested election of the NDU held at the Iruka Primary School Nawgu, Dunukofia Local Government Area.

Prince Nwegwu said his victory was a prayer answered for ndi Nawgu craving for a new direction for the desired growth and development of the town. Prince Nwegwu, who noted that he made the first attempt in 2012, eventually becoming the Vice President-General, likewise in 2015, gave it another shot in 2019, losing and eventually emerging victorious in 2022, said he gave God the glory.

“Whenever I look at Nawgu, I see development yearning for expression. I contested to lead owing to my wealth of experiences as a prince who happened to be the son of a traditional ruler who played a vital role in the leadership of Nawgu for 32 years and from my experience as Vice President-General of Nawgu for six years, I see Nawgu people as peace-loving people, who know how to show the Nawgu in them. By God’s grace, our expectations shall find expression.”

“The expectations are very clear. The people have spoken unambiguously and unequivocally, they have made a statement that today, they want a new beginning. They want a new chapter to be opened in Nawgu. By God’s grace, I won’t fail them.”

Prince Nwegwu called on ndi Nawgu to cooperate with the new leadership of the NDU while expressing his appreciation to the outgoing exco for their effort in directing the affairs of the town.

Earlier in his remarks before the election began, the traditional ruler of Nawgu, Igwe George Okaa-Onwuogu (Igwe Orachili Na Nawgu), sued for the peaceful conduct of the NDU elections, describing Nawgu as a peaceful town.

“We enjoy peace in Nawgu and want to sustain it. This is not the first town union election that will be conducted. The essence of the election is to elect capable hands that will pilot the affairs of the town for the next three years.” You must ensure that your vote counts. Things are getting better and it is my prayer that we live long to enjoy the gift of life,” he said.

The NDU Financial Secretary, Uche Okafor, thanked God for the peaceful conduct of the election and appreciated the town for the privilege to serve, even as a physically challenged person.

“If it were in some places, they would discriminate against me but not here. There is ability in disability. For me to be elected to serve shows more ability than a physical challenge.

“Nawgu is a peaceful town. I pray that the spirit of unity continues to bond us. Losers in any challenge should take it as a positive encounter and see it as an opportunity to give it a shot another time.”

“As the Fin Sec, it is my duty to have proper documentation of the union’s expenses. I have seen how funds were mismanaged in the past and I don’t want that to happen under my watch,” he said.
The 2nd Vice-President elect of NDU, Mr. Chudi Okeke, said his intention for contesting was for the progress of the town.
“I believe in teamwork. My contribution to the team will be towards the development of the town. The new exco will work in harmony for the good of the town,” he said.
