In Anambra, gunmen attack Ihiala Police headquarters

… Set station ablaze
… Blood splashes on the scene

Hell was let loose between midnight and 1am in the early hours of Wednesday 28th December, 2022 as daredevil gunmen invaded Ihiala Divisional Police Station with explosive devices that rattled the Police Division and Area Command.

Eye witness accounts say the attackers damaged the Police Division and the Area Command with their explosives and gunfire. The extent of loss is indescribable and not yet quantified as there were still explosions while people, living around the ill-fated police station scampered for safety over the night.

There were blood stains in the premises but no live has been reported, lost as at press time.

Meanwhile the Police Public Relations Officer of Anambra State Command, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu Anthony, confirmed the development, saying that operatives of the Police Division fought the gunmen to standstill. A press statement, released from his office confirmed the attack

The PPRO’s statement: “Our Operatives in the early hours of today 28/12/2022 engaged some gunmen who attacked Ihiala police divisional headquarters and recovered one abandoned Ak47 rifle. The gunmen escaped the scene due to the superior fire of the police operatives, and no casualty was recorded.

“Unfortunately, the explosives the gunmen threw inside the police Station building had already ignited a fire and affected the building.
“The fire has been put off. Operation is still ongoing in the area. Further details shall be communicated.”
