In continuation of the ongoing familiarization tour of the 21 local government areas in the state, the board members of the Anambra State Local Government Service Commission(ASLGSC), Awka, visited Onitsha South, Idemili North and Idemili South Local Governments respectively.
Addressing the council workers during the visits, the Chairman, Anambra State Local Government Service Commission, Awka, Vin IfeanyiEzeaka, reiterated the board’s determination to enhance effective service delivery and improved productivity in the local government system through the present administration’s transformation agenda, geared towards making Anambra State a liveable and prosperous state.
Ezeaka, who frowned seriously at workers’ poor attendance to work, noted that the new board members were inaugurated to bring back the past glory of the local government system, fish out truant, ghost and deceased staff in the system, called on the council workers to live up to expectation and be more dedicated to their duties for improved productivity and sustainability of the grassroots.
The commission chairman, who extolled the Chairman, Idemili North Local Government, Brown Igboanusi, the Head of Local Government Administration, Mrs Rita Obiekwe and the entire council management for their team work and environmental cleanliness, said the board will soon embark on computer training for all Heads of Department in the Unified Local Government System, adding that the board will equally advise government to supply laptops to all HODs at affordable rates for improved capacity building and effective service delivery.
The chairman, who also promised to reward efficient and dedicated staff, warned that from hence forth, all financial irregularities in the system be stopped and that all internally generated revenue must be paid to the council account with receipt within 24 hours.
Ezeaka, further stated that the board members will be visiting various councils for monitoring of attendance to work without workers’ notice, adding that all staff that have stayed up to five years in a particular local government, must be transferred to local governments close to their place of abode and that the board has a policy that any officer above grade level 10 will no longer be appointed as cashier in the local government system.
The commission’s boss equally promised that the new board will take care of the noticeable disparity between the local government staff and their state counterparts, stressing as well that workers’ monthly impress will soon be increased provided that workers are ready to change their poor attitude to work and adhere strictly to government policies and directives.
Addressing the council staff at Idemili North and Onitsha South Local Governments, respectively, the Member 1 of the commission, AzubuikeOkoye, who is also the commissioner supervising the two local governments, noted that he observed that the board will not have much conflicts in Idemili North LGA since the council has highly dedicated transition chairman, who is ready to carry his workers along as well as emulative due process and digital Head of Local Government Administration, who is always ready to collaborate with the board for discipline and productivity in the council.
Okoye, who advised workers on the need to alleviate conflicts and maintain good working relationship with the chairman of the council, noted that government will soon introduce electronic attendance monitoring machine in the local government system to monitor workers attendance to work or be disciplined accordingly.
The Member 1, while addressing the council staff, maintained that due process must always be followed in discharging our duties as council workers, emphasising that all internally generated revenue taken by the state government will be brought back to local government by February and warned workers to desist from any act capable of damaging the good image of the council.
He called on the treasurers to be prudent in the management of the council fund , adding that all money generated in the council be paid into the council account for proper accountability.
He also informed workers that the board has recommended for increase in their salaries and running cost and urged them to embrace the ongoing wind of change in the local government system and cooperate with the commission to achieve its set objectives.
In their separate speeches, the Transition Committee Chairmen, Onitsha South Local Government, Emeka Orji, Idemili North , Chuks Brown Igboanusi, Idemili South,. MrsAmaka Obi, represented by the HLGA ,MrNkemdilim Patricia, commended the grassroots governor, Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo for appointing credible, committed and trusted board members for improved local government system.
They equally thanked the board members for the ongoingfamiliarisation tour while pledging their sincere support to achieve the vision of Mr Governor towards ensuring a liveable and prosperous Anambra State.
In a vote of thanks, the Heads of Local Government Administration Idemili North LGA, Mrs Rita Chike – Obiekwe, Idemili South LGA, Mrs Patricia Nkemdilim and Onitsha South LGA, MrsUchariaOkoye , extolled the commission for transforming the local government system through its policies and activities.
