OYO State Government has launched a new application for electronic collection of other road taxes in the state.

The government said it was part of measures taken by the state to regularise tax collection and increase the internally generated revenue of the state.

The app, according to the developer, will in no small measures block financial leakages, fraudulent transactions, improve on government-taxpayer relationship in terms of confidence building and guarantee improvement on expected revenues.

Speaking during the official launch of the app at the weekend in Ibadan; Chairman of Oyo State Internal Revenue Service (OYIRS), Mr Femi Awakan noted that Oyo State is already tapping into ICT to drive its economic agenda in line with global best practice.

Lamenting the impact of what he described as ‘cutting corners’ and financial leakages emanating from sharp practices by tax collection agents and conniving tax payers, Awakan said, anyone found attempting to engage in such act will be made to face the full wrath of the law.

He warned those who may want to engage in any form of fraudulent act to bury the idea.

Earlier this year, Oyo State Governor, SeyiMakinde announced that the monthly internally generated revenue increased from N1.8billion  to more than N3.3 billion within three years.

Despite the significant increase, the Government of Oyo State believes that there is a need to block all leakages and stop all forms of irregularities in its revenue generation process.
