In Anambra, accountants’ day marked in style

MEMBERS of Anambra State Accounting Staff Association (ASASA), an umbrella body of all Accounting Staff in the employment of Anambra State Civil Service under the Accountant General of the State, Tuesday, marked the International Accountants Day (IAD) in style.

  The week long event which also serves as appreciation platform for members has the theme, “The Role of Accounting in National Development.”

  The event started with a health walk from the Jerome Udoji Secretariat through Aroma Junction to Ukwu Orji Government House and ended at the Ministry of Lands, Awka.

  The annual event, which is held every November 10,h has its origin in 1972, when the San Diego Chapter of the California Society Accountants came up with Accounting Careers Days to encourage young people to pursue a career in accounting. In recent years, the day has also been celebrated on a global scale.

  The Anambra State Accounting Staff Association has three keywords as its motto, Standardisation, Accountability and Transparency. Besides the IAD event, the association embarks on capacity building of members during its quarterly meetings in order to update and upgrade members in the process of performing their schedule of duties.
