Oyo State Police Command has pledged to hunt political thugs involved in destroying campaign billboards belonging to rival parties in the state.

This is contained in a statement released by the command’s Public Relations Officer, AdewaleOsifeso, on Sunday.

He said the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Williams has ordered his deputy in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department to commence full-scale investigations to uncover those behind the destruction of billboards in the state.

According to him, some unscrupulous and criminal minded agents of mischief and anarchy perpetrated the crime during the weekend.

The command also warned political big wigs and other stakeholders in the state to put a check on their overzealous loyalists and supporters who are driven by the ideologies of enforcing dominance and territorialism through “needless aggression and violence”.

The command further appealed to parents, guardians, and other opinion leaders to caution their wards against being used by desperate politicians as Canon-fodder and destructive tools.

It also warned that anyone caught disturbing the peace or inciting violence through deeds or otherwise anywhere across the state shall be “decisively dealt with in accordance with relevant laws of the federation”.


In another development, Oyo State Police Command has charged residents to be mindful of fraudulent acts of fake terminal operators of Point of Sales, otherwise known as POS, as many have fallen victim to the nefarious activities of the fake operators of POS in the state.

The command’s spokesman, AdewaleOsifeso, said in a statement issued on Friday, that the operators of the unregistered gadget connive with other criminals to dupe unsuspecting residents.

The statement read, “the Oyo State Police Command through purposeful led intelligence wishes to alert members of the public, particularly residents of the state about the sudden proliferation of criminal and unregistered Point of Sales Terminal Operators across the state, whose sole aim of existence is to criminally conspire with unscrupulous elements to redistribute financial proceeds from criminal dealings.

“While enjoining members of the public to exercise extreme vigilance and caution in their dealings during any “outside the banking hall operations”, it is not out of place to validate every transaction process by demanding from the operators; Identity cards Certificate of Incorporation from the Cooperate Affairs Commission and other relevant approved documents of authentication from their legally recognised associations.

“The Commissioner of Police,Adebowale Williams promises to clamp down heavily on any individual or group whose intent is to truncate the relative tranquility maintained in the state”.

Confirming the shooting incident at Bodija Railway Junction axis of Ibadan North Local Government Area of the state, on Friday, the PPRO revealed that the victim, identified as Abubakar Ibrahim, was trailed by armed robbers after completing a business transaction within the same metropolis.

According to the police image maker, the victim was accosted on his way home and was shot in the leg with the intent to impede his mobility before the assailants dispossessed him of cash sum of N270,000.
