NO FEWER than 70 people sustained different degrees of injuries following an attack on the campaign motorcade of the presidential candidate of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar in Maiduguri, Borno State, yesterday.
The victims are currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.
A viral video trending on social media shows many vandalised vehicles heading to Ramat Square, where Atiku was scheduled to hold a campaign rally ahead of the 2023 general elections.
According to spokesperson of PDP campaign council, Senator Dino Melaye, the attack was sponsored by a rival party.
“They wanted to prevent us from doing holding the campaign, as we speak, 74 people were injured and hospitalised.
Several vehicles were vandalised by their thugs,” Melaye said.
Although attempts to get reaction of spokesperson of Borno State governor was not successful as his known phone line was unreachable, it will be recalled that in October, a similar attack was carried out on Atiku’s supporters in Kaduna State.
