Wear life jackets -   Marine chief urges  water travellers

Anambra East Chief Marine Captain, Boniface Ilegbunam has called on the people who travel through water to always put on their life jackets.

Chief Ilegbunam made the urge while speaking to newsmen in Otuocha.

According to him,  life jacket serves like seat belts in motors and must be put on at all times by those who travel through the water for them to safeguard their lives.

Regretting  the recent boat mishap in the state, he said  that had the occupants of the ill-fated boat wore their life jackets, the casualties would have been minimally reduced.

“It is an offence for any boat captain to convey passengers who refuse to wear life jackets through water,” he said, urging  people who travel through water or may wish to do so, to always insist on wearing their life jackets.

He commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration on their positive response to the flood victims in the state and  called on the federal government, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to urgently bring relief materials to the flood victims as people are dying of hunger and hopelessness.
