Family members die mysteriously after eating Amala

By Arinze Anaegbunam

FOUR members of a family have been reported dead after taking a meal prepared by the family in Kogi State.

The family head, Pa. Motilewa, his two daughters and a girl who is said to be their relation died after consuming the meal, while Motilewa’s wife miraculously survived.

One of the deceased daughters identified as Motun was a National Certificate of Education holder and teacher.

According to reports, the family prepared the ‘Amala’ meal from the left over of cassava flour from which they had previously made and eaten ‘fufu’. However, after eating the meal on Thursday last week, they became sick overnight and efforts made to stabilise them were futile.

The tragic news began with the death of the youngest member of the family on Friday, followed by the relation living with the family on Saturday.

Following these deaths, other family members were moved to the highly rated ECWA Hospital, Egbe, for better medical attention. However, the eldest of the daughters, Motun, passed on at about 3:00am Sunday, with the father dying later same day.

The deceased man’s wife identified as Ma Molomo is still alive at the hospital and under close observation, a source confirmed to their source.

Community members have suspended the burial for proper investigations to unravel the cause of their deaths.
