CHAIRMAN, Traditional Rulers Council, Aguata Local Government Area, Anambra State, Igwe Chukwuma Bob Orji of Ezinifite, has appealed to the federal government to drain the Benue and  Niger Rivers to end the perennial flooding in riverine areas in the country.

Igwe Orji, who passionately made the appeal in Awka, over the weekend, while having a chat with newsmen said, “the moment the rivers are drained, waters will easily find their way out of their banks and the riverine areas.

“So, I want the federal government to put a stop to this every year the same phenomenon, the same stories”, saying the consequence of the perennial flooding on food need of Nigerians and the flood affected communities, is enormous.

While advising both state and federal governments to provide a safe upland, to the riverine communities, the Agauta monarch also urged the victims to muster courage to relocate, pointing out that losing their investments to flood, on annual basis, does no one any good.

The royal father extolled farmers in Anambra State, led by Felix Okelue, for coming together under one umbrella to forge a common front towards food sufficiency in the state.

He enjoined every Nigerian to key into farming, noting that this will go extra mile to eliminate crisis in society and bring about peaceful coexistence among people.

Expressing satisfaction that since the ban on importation of rice into the country, in 2018, Nigeria was able to maintain self-sufficiency in rice need, Igwe Orji prayed God to give Nigerians understanding of importance of agriculture.
