Governor of Anambra State, Prof. ChukwumaSoludo, has condemned the killing of five soldiers and one civilian by unknown gunmen in Umunze, Orumba South Local Government Area, yesterday.

The soldiers were attacked while on routine patrol by the gunmen who ambushed them.

Gov. Soludo made the condemnation immediately he received report of the attack.

Describing the killing of soldiers on a routine patrol as cold blood murder and height of cruelty, the governor vowed to ensure that there will be no hiding place for the perpetrators.

“We condemn this wicked and cruel attack in the strongest terms. The perpetrators of this act must pay. We are not going to rest on our oars, including those people that attacked Senator IfeanyiUbah and the rest. There will be absolutely no hiding place for them. Going forward, our actions will show, as these people must surely pay for this heinous and repulsive attack,” Soludo said.

The governor also urged ndi Anambra to remain calm and law-abiding as the security agencies are on top of the situation.

It will be recalled that some unknown gunmen killed five soldiers in Umunze at about 12:30 p.m, yesterday.

Residents say the incident occurred beside a second generation bank located close to the popular NkwoUmunze market.

According to them, the soldiers were in their Sienna patrol vehicle when the gunmen opened fire on  them, killing five on the scene while a yet-to-be-identified resident who was caught by stray bullets  also died in the attack.
