…Wike’s camp pulls out of presidential campaign council

AS the crisis rocking People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ahead the 2023 general elections continues to fester, the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar has said the fate of  Senator Iyorchia Ayu as National Chairman of PDP does not lie with him.

Atiku stated this in a release he yesterday, following withdrawal of Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike’s camp from the party’s campaign council after a meeting held in Wike’s Port-Harcourt residence.

According to Atiku, not only does he lack powers to force Ayu to resign but doing so will send wrong messages on his integrity as a democrat.

Atiku, therefore, called on Wike’s camp to return to their membership of the council in the interest of the party.

“On the calls for the resignation or removal from office of our national chairman, however, I must reiterate what I have said severally in public and in private; the decision for Dr Iyorchia Ayu to resign from office is personal to Dr Ayu and, neither I nor anyone else can make that decision for him,” he said.

In a related development, Gov. Nyesom Wike’s camp has pulled out of PDP’s presidential campaign council that was inaugurated for the party for the 2023 elections.

The group made its position known after a Wike’s Port Harcourt residence.

According to the group, none of them will participate in whatever capacity in the campaign council unless the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, resigns for a southern candidate.
