Anambra govt pulls down shanties at Agu Awka

ANAMBRA State Government has embarked on  destruction of  shanties in Maja slum located at Agu-Awka axis of the capital city.

  Leading the team of enforcement officers from the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) was the managing director and chief executive officer, Venerable Amaechi Okwuosa, who carried out the exercise after due exit notices had been served residents of the area.

  According to government sources, the action of the government in bulldozing the area is timely as it has been illegally occupied by the exited occupants, hence prompting the government taking a drastic action.

  The ACTDA enforcement team also supported by other sister agencies and security agents, also removed illegal structures erected on setbacks along the expressway.

  Speaking with pressmen, the ACTDA boss, Venerable Okwuosa said that the slum and its vicinity had become notorious for so many deadly crimes, including armed robbery and drugs trade.

  Venerable Okwuosa further stated that his office will not leave any stone unturned in helping to achieve the developmental goals of the present administration, beginning from the state’s capital.

  He said that the current administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo is determined to sanitise the State, in the quest to achieve safe and livable environment.
