IT WAS indeed great as members of Legion of Mary, St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, G.R.A. Awka, celebrated the nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The event which started with a Holy Mass was well attended by lovers of Mother Mary.

The Commissum President, Ireneus Chukwudi Nwizugbo, in his welcome address, expressed his thanks to the parish priest, Rev Fr. Francis Oranye and their spiritual director, Rev. Fr Clement Igwegbe. He explained that the event is one of the many functions of Legion of Mary for the year.

Nwizugbo narrated that the theme of the year’ feast, ‘ Behold Your Mother’, taken from John 19:27 explains the importance of mother to the child, as he reminded all of what the Blessed Mother did at Cana of Galilee, even as he encouraged all to always rely on her.

In his opening remarks, the chairman of the occasion, Donald Umejiaku, stated that Legion of Mary is truly the shortest way to make heaven, as one cannot make it without humility.

The Spiritual Director, Fr Igwegbe explained the role of Mary as he stated thus: “While hanging on the cross, Jesus Christ handed Mary to us, she became our mediatrix.

She is not only the mother of Jesus, but our mother also. We ask her today to pray to her son for our steadfastness in his work”.

On her part, the Curia President, Dorothy Nweze expressed her joy over the event and explained that the real feast day is September 8.
