…Inducts 51 new ozo title holders
IT WAS double celebration at the palace of the traditional ruler of Umuona, Igwe Humphrey Obumneme Ejesieme, Ezedioranma the 11th of Umuona in Aguata Council Area of Anambra State as he inducts 51 indigenous sons of the community into prestigious Ozo Umuona while marking this year’s New Yam Festival .
The epoch-making event attracted other traditional rulers such as Igwe Colonel Muoghalu of Isuofia, Igwe Ezenri Emmanuel Nriagu; sons and daughters of the community, group of men and women who came to witness the event, promote their culture and also pay homage to the monarch.
Highlight of the event include commissioning of two residents single handedly built by the traditional ruler for a disabled man at Aguluzigbo and a widow in his community respectively; induction of 51 sons into prestigious Ozo Umuona prior to their day of New Yam Festival, display of masquerades, among others.
While taking their oaths of acceptance, the inductees accepted to abstain from any form of corruption and criminality as stated by law of tradition.
In an interview with some of the inductees, Chief Nnadilinwa Ezeokoli, ‘Nwaweluugonnaya’; and Chief Izuchukwu Nwankwo, ‘Ezeani Ebube Akajiugonnaya’; expressed their joy as members of Ozo Umuona, even as they prayed for longevity of the throne of their monarch, as well as unity and progress in the community.
According to Ezeokoli, “our traditional ruler is doing us well. He built and commissioned two residents for the less privileged a day before today being our New Yam Festival. He prayed for the beneficiaries as they move into their new houses. This is making it almost 28 houses he has built for people in Umuona and beyond. I pray that God will continue to bless him immeasurably as he enriches the poor”.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the event, Igwe Humphrey Ejesieme said the newly inducted sons will help in promoting development, peace and unity in the community.
“Umuona ancient kingdom is a popular community. We want to showcase our culture and tradition to the world. We have inducted 51 new sons into prestigious ozo Umuona who will help to attract development in our community. I am also using this medium to encourage them to give more support to the leaders of Umuona”.
On his part, Chief Samuel Okorobuike, ‘Ezeani Omenachiya’ described Ozo title as the most prestigious rank of well to do sons of a community, noting that due process followed to ensure proper selection and induction of the members..
Some members of the Igwe’s cabinet present were the son of the monarch, Prince Osita Udoye, ‘Ozo Ojinnaka’; Augustine Okeke, ‘Ezeani Ugodinobi’; Oliver Nwankwo, ‘Ezeani Onosolueze’; Dr. Chijioke Okonkwo and many others.
Among the inductees were Chibueze Onyema, Anayochukwu Chibueze Nwankwo, Godwin Nwankwo, Ruben Ubandubilo, Darlington Nwankwo, Amaobi Ndubilo and many others.
