Female generator repair apprentice seeks help to complete her secondary education

A 19-year old girl, Susan Chinyere Udemba from Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, an apprentice at a generator repairing workshop behind the state’s Government House, Awka, has revealed her dream of establishing a workshop within and outside her village.

  Miss Udemba while interacting with our reporter on why she chose the skill which is unusual for women, equally she still has interest in furthering her education, adding that she dropped from junior secondary school at Ohiamam Ukpor due to inability of her parents to further her education.

  She pleaded with government and public spirited individual to help her in achieving her aim of completing her secondary education, saying it will help her more in the skill which she has chosen.

   “Initially, I wanted to learn hairdressing but my uncle, Emeka Udemba encouraged me to move into the skill as plant operator and repairer. I am learning and gaining much in this skill. I am in carburetor level now. I find it interesting. I am improving on the skill gradually and by the grace of God, very soon, I will be able to completely pieces and couple a generator without assistance.”

  She encouraged women not to see it as skill meant for men, adding that everybody is capable of doing it.
