ABOUT N829.8 million has been approved as the revised estimate for rehabilitation of the Trunk B road linking Inyi and Akpugoze towns in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State with Ufuma and Awa communities in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The approval was given by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in its weekly meeting in Presidential Villa, Abuja,
Briefing State House Correspondents after the meeting, Minister of State for Works and Housing, Umar El-Yakub explained that contract for rehabilitation of the road originally awarded in 2018 had to be revised because of its strategic position as an inter-state road recording heavy traffic on daily basis.
According to Yakub, the contract is specified to be completed within six months.
“The Federal Ministry of Works and Housing presented a memorandum seeking council’s approval for the revised estimated cost of the contract. It is for the rehabilitation of the Nkwo-Inyi-Akpugoze Road at Anambra’s border with Enugu State at Oji River and Orumba North Local Government Areas respectively, and is expected to be completed in six months. One of the essences of this augmentation is not only revising the rate, but to ensure longevity for the road, using the asphaltic concrete binder,” he said.
On the dilapidated nature of the Ekpoma-Benin Expressway, the minister assured that measures were being taken to fix the road but that the rainy season was delaying its completion.
