GOVERNOR of Anambra State, Charles Chukwuma Soludo has expressed shock over the sudden death of Anambra State lawmaker, representing Awka South Constituency One in the House of Assembly, Dr. Nnamdi Okafor, who doubles as the Majority Leader of the House.

This was contained in a press release by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Christian Aburime.        “It is shocking that the State Assembly lost another lawmaker to the cold hands of death, coming barely three months after the demise of the lawmaker representing Aguata Two Constituency, Okechukwu Okoye.

“Dr. Nnamdi Okafor was an active participant at the 7th Assembly, who devoted his time and energy to represent his constituency. He’ll be sorely missed”.

“On behalf of Anambra State Government, may I use this medium to convey my sympathy to those he left behind, including his family, Awka Constituency One and Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor as well as other lawmakers. Indeed, life is ephemeral. May the living continue to reflect on the essence of life and live for the good of the society like Dr. Okafor did,” the statement noted.

Similarly, former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Dr Willie Obiano has commiserated with the state government, state House of Assembly and the family of the late lawmaker, Nnamdi Okafor, PhD, who passed away during a duty tour to South Africa.

This is contained in a press statement by the ex-governor who described the deceased lawmaker as a trained Pharmacist.

According to Obiano, it was for love of state and country that Okafor left a thriving pharmaceutical job in the US in  2015 to explore what he could do to uplift his Awka 1 Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly.

He further noted that Okafor was an active lawmaker and majority leader in the House who contributed to the growth of the legislature and participated in robust debates in the House.

“I console Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Hon Uche Okafor, the Speaker, members of the House, his constituency and his immediate family over his demise.

“This is a vocal lawmaker, who will certainly be missed in the Assembly,” Obiano noted.

Recall that Dr. Okafor reportedly slumped at Sandton City Johannesburg, South Africa where he was attending a statutory training session of members of Anambra State House of Assembly.
