Anambra sets up body on adolescent health

ANAMBRA STATE Commissioner for Health, Afam Obidike has identified comprehensible health education and media advocacy as the key channel that can effectively discourage and enlighten adolescents from substance abuse, teenage Pregnancy, rape, abortion and post abortion complications, access to Life Planning of Adolescents and Youths (LPAY) information and service, including cultism.

  The commissioner disclosed this during his official Inauguration and establishment of Anambra State Technical Working Group on Adolescent Health and Development at the Ministry of Health on Friday,

  Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Anambra State, Mrs Carol Njaka, at the interactive session after the inauguration, assured the ministry will support the newly established group in achieving her objectives and by curbing the feeling of unpleasantness which manifests as juvenile delinquencies amongst adolescents in the state.

  Adolescent Health Development and School Health Officer, Federal Ministry of Health, Mrs. Joy Kalu, while educating the members, highlighted the concept and purpose of establishing the state’s Technical Working Group on Adolescent Health and Development, the actionable plans, set target, organigram and duration of the work plan for the members.

  The state coordinator, Adolescent Health and Gender Equity, Mrs. Ngozi  Ekeh said  that the members are set of passionate stakeholders carefully selected from different sectors of the community and civil society organizations (C.S.O), who are able to influence adolescents’ decisions and programming for affective execution of the set goals outlined.
