Pa Ike laid to rest in Ezira



THE remains of the late Chief Caleb Okechukwu Ike, popularly known as Onowu Ezira, has been laid to rest in his country home, Imuohia Village Ezira in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

 Before his death, Pa  Ike, 60,  who started holding  leadership positions at a tender age was the President of Student Union in 1978; Chairman of the Cultural Organisation of Ezira and also served as President General, who was known for his humility, peace, unity and progress that he brought in the community, among many other legacies.

  The funeral was graced by government officials, friends, well-wishers, in-laws and many relatives who came to pay their last respect to the deceased.

  In an interview with the transition chairman of Orumba South Council Area, Neville Uchendu and also the flag bearer of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), who is presently contesting to represent the people of Orumba North and South Federal Constituency, Eric Eze, ably represented by Uchechukwu Onua, condoled with the family, even as they take solace in the lord for the good life their late father had lived.

  Also speaking, the President General of Ezira Town Union, Mr Evaristus Onwumelu commiserated with the family and entire Ezira community, even as he described the late Onowu of Ezira as a gentle and honest man with a remarkable achievement. Mr Onwumelu also prayed for God’s continuous blessings and provision in their family.

  “He encouraged me when he was alive. He ensured that there is peace in our community by initiating the idea we used to elect our new traditional ruler,  Igwe Samuel Uche, 16 years ago after we lost the former traditional ruler. As a pacesetter with good legacies, he did so many things for Ezira community and we pray for his soul to rest in peace”.

  Speaking to newsmen shortly after the funeral, the first son of the deceased, Prince Promise Ike expressed his gratitude to the governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo for his immense support, as well as other government officials who graced the funeral and prayed for their safe return to their various destinations.

  He  further described his late father as a great man who understood the feelings of others, adding that they will continue to follow his footsteps and advices in his memory.
