ANAMBRA State Government says it is determined to sanitise the transport sector to enhance its internally generated revenue generation.
The state Commissioner for Transport,Mrs Patricia Igwebike disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the ongoing reforms in the motor park management.
She explained that government wouldn’t want a repeat the history where private individuals invaded motor parks for their selfish interests and money meant to develop the state diverted to private pockets. While reacting to a publication in one of the dailies, she said what government is doing was to take a holistic approach to the management of the park with a view to build an effective and efficient management system devoid of corruption and embezzlement of public funds.
“This time, government is painstakingly addressing the issue of management of motor parks whereby government takes full control of the parks through the motor park administrators.
“Let me state it categorically clear that government of Anambra State has not appointed any administrator in any motor park. It just directed interested persons who wish to apply as park administrators to do so in line with government directives .
We assure the good people of Anambra State of a level playingground for a smooth transitional process in the state transport industry. Let me restate that the government directives on the ban on touts in the state motor parks is still in full force, and anybody caught flouting government directives would be made to face the full weight of the law.
