Board accredits 33 institutions for health information management training



THE Registrar of  the Health Records Officers Registration Board of Nigeria (HRORBN), Babagana Mustapha says the board has accredited 33 training institutions on Health Information Management in the country.

  Mustapha who Mustapha disclosed that the institutions were accredited within one year stated this at a press conference held in Abuja on Wednesday.

  According to him, there are now 124 accredited training institutions in the country and there are over 29,000 health record professionals in the country.

  “A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with the Kaduna Polytechnic to establish a Health Information Management tutor training programme.

  “A committee was put in place to develop the training curriculum and has been completed with three parts – teaching methodology, core Health Information Management and practical.

  “Basic Minimum Academic Standard has been developed and approved by the National Universities Commission for BSc HIM and awaiting publication alongside many programmes to be established in Nigerian universities,” he said

  The registrar noted that in one year, the board has been able to develop policies of yearly renewal of license, implementation of the NCE circular, digitalisation of some departments such as education/indexing, examination, and licensing.

  He said the board has conducted Professional Diploma, National Diploma and Higher National Diploma/BSc Professional License Examinations with 3,829 candidates successfully registered to practice Health Information Management in the country.
