Nowadays, media is the backbone of every country as it plays a very vital role in the development of every nation. Reality TV shows have become very popular after the never-ending era of daily soap operas. One can confidently say that these shows like Big Brother Naija (BBNaija), Who Wants to be a Millionaire (WWTBAM) have played very important roles in making celebrities out of ordinary people. Audiences have been introduced to a host of hidden talents that they never thought existed in the country. Our reporter, NKIRUKA EZEDINUGWU, went round the town to find out people’s opinion on both shows. Excerpts:

IG Brother Naija is a Nigerian reality competition television series, based on the Big Brother television franchise, in which contestants live in an isolated house and compete for a large cash prize and other material prizes at the end of the show by avoiding being evicted. It is an entertainment show for people to display their talents, making celebrities out of ordinary people and bringing them to fame.

  Who Wants to  be a millionaire, on the other hand, is an educational game show that was launched in 2004 and suddenly stopped in 2017. After a five-year break, the renowned family TV show came back on the TV screens, with the eccentric Frank Edoho returning as the show’s host. Now, with a revamped ultimate cash prize of N20 million and modified player lifelines, the show is set to steal the hearts of Nigerians once more. The show is based solely on questions and answers on science, literature, sport, and movies. The contestants would seat on the hot seat before the hundreds of audience facing the host, Frank Edoho, for the Nigerian version.  Now, both shows tend to be filled with suspense, drama, competition and more importantly unpredictable.

  Between Who Wants to be a Millionaire and BBNaija, which is more educative?

  Who want to be a millionaire is more educative because from beginning, we all know that it is an educational game show based solely on questions and answers, taking questions from many fields, meaning that the contestant must be versatile, having knowledge of many subjects to win money in the show. But then, Big Brother is educative to some extent, but I see it solely as an entertainment show which is supposed to make celebrities out of the contenstants.

  Which of them has more audience?

  Big Brother Naija has more audience because it is basically an entertainment show which majority of our youths and indeed, every adult prefer to watch and vote in.

  Which of them should be encouraged the more?

  Who wants to be a millionaire should be encouraged because a whole lot could be learnt from the show education wise, unlike Big Brother Naija which is very risky to watch because at one moment, they are discussing, and the next moment, they are fighting or romancing, but then, both of them are entertaining in their own way.

BIG Brother Naija and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, which is more educative?

  Obviously, the latter has more educational content than the former; it’s a show based solely on the questions and answers on virtually all spheres of life including science, technology, arts, sport, movies, etc. On the one hand, the former is a reality show which is purely entertainment. It also tests your ability to have sex live on national TV without shame.

  Which has more audience?

  Sadly, BB Naija has more audience because immorality sells more in this current world; many people are addicted to porn that’s why they like watching BBNaija.

  Which should be encouraged the more?

  WWTBAM should be encouraged more because it will promote knowledge acquisition. I know some folks that revived their reading culture because of the show.

  Which has more interesting features?

  BB 9ja has more features than WWTBAM but WWTBAM has more interesting features than BB 9ja.

  Which is more beneficial to the upcoming generation?

  WWTBAM undoubtedly will be more beneficial to the upcoming generation; it will instill discipline, hard-work and quest for knowledge in them.

  Which has more moral values attached?

  WWTBAM has more moral values; it has an underlying philosophy that hardwork precedes success. BB 9ja however is a celebration of obscenity, eroticism and idleness, and it does not promote good ethical or cultural values. In fact, it has zero good moral values.

  Who want to be a millionaire is more educative. You get to learn a lot of things that you don’t know from the questions been asked and this season of ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’ provides an opportunity for children to participate, both the adult and children can watch unlike the Big Brother Naija which should be strictly for adults and is not really educative because they display some sinful act which can corrupt the children.

  Who wants to be a millionaire should be encouraged the more because it is very educative and it is an interesting program.

  Big Brother has more interesting features because of the different game activities they participate in the program.

  Who wants to be a millionaire is more beneficial to the upcoming generation because it is educative and it encourages people who wish to participate to research more in other to win the price money.

  Who wants to be a millionaire has moral values because they answer questions on different aspects of life.

  Who Wants to be a Millionaire is more educative because of the program abilities to test and educate the quest and viewers on some academics and general knowledge unlike Big Brother Naija that has no means of educating its audience positively.

  The Big Brother Naija has more audience, reason is because of the younger generation of Nigeria and Africa’s quest or like for nudity which the program promotes so well.

  Which should be encouraged the more?

  Who Wants to be a Millionaire should be more encouraged because of its positive impacts that comes in form of education and entertainment.

  Which is more beneficial to the upcoming generation?

  Who Wants to be a Millionaire is more beneficial to the upcoming generation because its promotes hardwork, intelligence and healthy entertainment for the young minds.

  Who Wants to be a Millionaire has more interesting features with the way the programs owners packaged it, especially the question and answer section on it to test and teach each guest or viewers more on a particular topic or subject matter there by educating or giving  room to gain more knowledge.

  Who Wants to be a Millionaire has more moral values and the objective of the program is to provide education, knowledge improvement in form of TV program.

  Who Wants To Be A Millionaire is more educative.. Reason, there is nothing like seduction, unnecessary conversation, it contains current affairs and you can learn many others you have never come across before… more especially verbal reasoning… twisting your brain.

  For me, Who Wants to be a Millionaire should be encouraged more, it has more interesting features because money is involved, more educating and cracking of one’s brain.
