…Over five terrorists die in Benue, Katsina, Niger gun battles
ABOUT four travellers were abducted by suspected gunmen in Anambra State, yesterday.
The incident happened around 3:00 pm in Ngene-Oka market, Nise in Awka South Local Government Area.
According to an eyewitness, the hoodlums first burnt the victims’ Hilux vehicle and took them away in a sports utility vehicle (SUV) their snatch at gunpoint from another person after the bandits had robbed some persons before fleeing.
The source said the operation lasted for about 30mins.
Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Anambra State Police Command, Ikenga Tochukwu said combat ready detectives have been dispatched to trail the bandits and rescueabducted persons.
In another development, Gunmen also kidnapped over 15 residents of Mgbuji Eha-Amufu Community in the Isi-Uzo local government area of Enugu State, today morning.
The kidnap took place around 7 am along Mgbuji-Agu Road near the Railway crossing within Mgbuji town.
Sources said some of the villagers were going to their farms on tricycles when the terrorists seized them, while others were picked up on their various rice farms.
Also, terrorists kidnapped a traditional ruler in Kuchibuyi community of Bwari Area Council of Abuja Federal Capital Territory, Chief Isiaka, after invading and ransacking his palace
His abduction occurred yesterday morning when the gunmen stormed his palace in the presence of his family members.
Spokesperson of FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident but declined to give more comments.
Conversely, Defence Headquarters says over five terrorists died in gun battle with troops while caches of arms were recovered in separate operations in Benue, Niger and Katsina States.
Director of Defence Media Operations, Bernard Onyeuko, gave the figure in a statement issued in Abuja, today.
