Terrorism: No attack in Anambra church – Police

THE Police in Anambra State have debunked Facebook report that four terrorists bombed a church in Awada area of Onitsha metropolis.

Dismissing the report as “malicious rumour,” in a statement issued in Awka to newsmen today, spokesman of Anambra Police Command, Ikenga Tochukwu said that no terrorist attack was launched in any church in Awada or anywhere else.

Tochukwu also warned people to desist from spreading false and malicious rumours.

According to him, mischief makers were trying to hijack a case of a criminal that was lynched and set ablaze by angry mob while attempting to rob a resident of the area to cause stampede in Onitsha.

“The attention of the Anambra State Police Command has been drawn to a publication from a facebook user, Chinasa Nworu saying that four Fulani terrorists sneaked into Awada Grace of God Church on Sunday 3/7/2022 in the evening to bomb the church. There was nothing like that in Awada or anywhere around Onitsha or Anambra State entirely. What happened was that a criminal was lynched by an angry mob but mischief makers sought to hijack the incident and cause tension or stampede in Onitsha. But Police will use this medium to warn rumour mongers to desist from acts capable of heating up the polity or get ready to be arrested,” the statement reads.
