AMID intensified police manhunt for bandits behind the wave of terrorist activities in parts of Nigeria, over 10 gunmen died during shoot-outs with anti-terror security agents in different locations nationwide, yesterday.

  A press statement issued by Anambra State Police Command said two senior members of a gang in white Toyota Hiace bus, red Toyota Corolla and a motorcycle while enforcing Tuesday’s sit-at-home in Obosi Idemili-North Local Government Area were neutralised while others took to their heels in a gun duel with a police patrol team that dislodged.

  According to the release which was signed by Ikenga Tochukwu on behalf of Police Commissioner Echeng Echeng, the patrol team quickly mobilised and headed to the scene following an alert by some well-meaning residents of the town and in an exchange of fire that ensued,  the hoodlums were routed.

  Tochukwu also solicited co-operation of ndi Anambra in the war against criminal elements by volunteering information on their activities.

  In a related development, troops of Operation Safe Haven neutralised eight notorious bandits and rescued their kidnap victims in Plateau and Kaduna States, yesterday.

  A release issued by Director of  Defence Information, Major-Gen Benard Onyeuko said troops recorded the feat following a clearance operation conducted in conjunction with vigilantes at Kan Duniya Village, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State and some stealth operations in Kaduna State.

  Onyeuko also called on the general public to avail troops with credible and timely information on criminal activities in order to assist the military in its push back against terrorist organisations nationwide.

  In a related development, a civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) Commander was killed while 16 residents including a medical doctor and his entire family members were abducted by bandits that invaded Sabon Gero community in Kaduna.

  A source in the community said the bandits stormed the area around 10pm on motorcycles and started shooting with residents running for their lives.
