Refreshing impetus in Anambra’s tourism, entertainment for improved revenue

ANAMBRA State is one of the states in Nigeria blessed with numerous centers of tourist and entertainment. Tourism and entertainment are areas of high revenue generation for states. Several governments’ administrations in the past had made commendable attempts to showcase some of these centres to the world. However, a lot need to be done to turn such centers to a money spinning centres for the state. Such places include Ogbunike Cave, Owerri Ezukala Ogbaukwu Cave and Water Falls, lgbo-UkwuMesuem, Agulu- Lake, Rojenny Oba and others.

  According to Anambra State Commissioner for Entertainment and Tourism, Don Onyenji, the present administration within 100 days in office has approved the deployment of Anambra State System of Tourism Statistics which is an international standard for automated management of the culture and tourism industry. “There are preliminary activities kick-started by the mapping and presentation of designs for the proposed Anambra State Tourism and Leisure Park at Agulu Lake,  which is going to be a world class TourisA destination. This is a project Mr Governor, Prof Charles Soludo is very passionate about.

  “Also strategic steps have been undertaken by the state for the upgrading of the Ogbunike Cave for listing at the UNESCO site which when achieved, will become a spectacular world heritage site with the potentials to attract thousands of tourists to the state. This will ultimately boost more businesses, especially in the hospitality and transport industry”.

  Also the Special Adviser to Governor Soludo on Entertainment, Leisure and Tourism, Sir Bob- Manuel Udokwu stated that Governor Soludo has a very robust plan for the entertainment, leisure and tourism industry. “This much he explained in his campaign manifesto. The governor has approved for an international standard Theme Park to be built in the Agulu Lake Resort premises. NdiAnambra and those living in or passing through Anambra State will enjoy facilities to be put there by this December

. “Many more innovative things are being planned for the sector. I don’t want to reveal those things now to avoid other states copying our idea”, he revealed.

 It would be recalled that the  Commissioner for Culture, Tourism and Entertainment, Comrade Chief Onyenji had called for partnership with the state government to develop the tourism sector of the state for improved revenue generation, and invited interested investors to join hands to develop the cultural heritage, tourism and entertainment sectors of the economy to improve revenue.
