…Father rapes neighbour’s daughter to death in Benue
NIGERIA’S criminality fringe is currently waxing more gerentocratic as some old men are on the prowl, killing, maiming and defiling children in their neighborhoods and communities.
In Bauchi State, a 16-year-old boy was found in a bush where his two eyes were removed at Dutsen Jira, Yelwa area of Bauchi metropolis.
The incident occurred just few days after an octogenarian, identified as Vincent Okoye was arrested for allegedly raping a minor in Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to spokesman of Bauchi State Police Command, Ahmed Wakil, preliminary investigation revealed that the victim, Uzairu Salisu was lured by one Ibrahim of Rafin Zurfi, a resident of Kwanan Gulmammu Jahun Quarters to the forest where the 65yr-old-man plucked out the boy’s eyes and ran away.
“At about 1800hrs, we received a distress call from the Ward Head of Birshi, Mohammed Lawal, that a boy of about 16 years was found in his pool of blood with two of his eyes removed at Dutsen Jira of Yelwa Area of Bauchi metropolitan. A team of Policemen led by DPO in Yelwa moved to the scene of the crime and evacuated the victim to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital Bauchi (ATBUTH) for treatment,” he said.
In another development, a High Court sitting in Makurdi, Benue State, yesterday sentenced an 80-year-old man, David Ukor to death by hanging for raping his 35-year-old neigbour’s underage daughter to death.
Handing down the sentence after convicting the defendant, Justice Wilfred Kpochi, said such atrocity deserves maximum punishment to serve as deterrence on others and make society safe for children and other vulnerable people.
