NUT eulogises Education Commissioner for commitment to reposition education
…Pledges unalloyed support to govt
CHAIRMAN, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Anambra State, Nonye Chibueze, has commended the new Commissioner for Education in the state, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Ude, for pragmatically showing commitment towards repositioning education sector in the state.
Comrade Chibueze made the commendation while having a chat with the press in her office, at the NUT State Secretariat, Awka.
The NUT boss, who described the education commissioner as an education guru, expressed satisfaction with her leadership style and effort so far, and pledged the Anambra NUT’s total support to her and Governor Chukwuma Soludo, for overall turnaround in the fortunes of the state’s education sector, expressing hope of robust cordial relationship between the union and the Soludo administration.
Her words, “Prof Ngozi Chuma-Ude is an education guru. Since assuming office as a commissioner of education, she has been working round the clock to make sure that she repositions education, both public and private, in Anambra State.
“She had held meetings with the critical education stakeholders – the principals, the NUT, among others. From all indication, it’s clear she wants to work with everybody without discrimination.
“So, we expect a more robust and cordial relationship with her and Mr Solution Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, as we’re fully ready to cooperate with her, give her necessary assistance to realise her goal.”
About the new National Policy on Education, the NUT leader said, “we, the teachers, are obviously happy – prior to the assenting the policy by the president. The former governor, Dr Willie Obiano, had given teachers in the state extension of service period – from 60 to 65 years of age, and 35 to 40 years period of service.
“But along the line, some people made sure that the programme is cancelled; though the teachers mostly affected have been working… .
“Happily, those that are due to go this year will now stay as a result of the emergence of the new national policy ; they will assist immensely to nurture the incoming teachers the state government is about to recruit,” Comrade Chibueze explained, and passionately appealed to the government to put into full implementation the new national minimum wage structure for the state’s teachers, for them to be motivated to perform optimally.
