Gunmen kill 15 in Anambra, Ebonyi, Kaduna

FIVE people were killed by unknown gunmen in two communities of Anambra and Ebonyi States, yesterday.

  While four police personnel were killed by the bandits during a mid-day attack on a police station in Atani, Ogbaru Local Government Area in Anambra State, one man was shot death in Ohaozara community of Ebonyi State.

  An eyewitness said the bandits arrived Atani Police Station at about 1:30pm and immediately launched an attack on the premises leading to death of four policemen.

Spokesperson of Anambra Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the attack in a telephone conversation.

  “The hoodlums came around afternoon, and unlucky for us, four police operatives paid the supreme price. The Commissioner of Police, Echeng Echeng, on hearing of the attack, immediately mobilised men of the command from various units to the area. The hoodlums were still there when the CP personally led men of the command to the affected area, and the timely arrival saved the day and the hoodlums were successfully repelled, and the facility was saved. We have commenced intelligence already, and we hope to unravel the persons behind the attack,” Ikenga said.

  However, no group has claimed responsibility of the attack.

  Also, over 10 persons were killed and many others abducted when gunmen raided Dorayi village of Dutsen Abba community in Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State, yesterday.

A resident of the area, Mallam Yunusa Idris, said the gunmen came around 2 am and were shooting sporadically.

  Although police authorities have not confirmed the attack, it will be recalled that parts of Kaduna have recorded incidents of gun attack that led to many deaths and abductions, recently.
