EDO State Government, through the state’s skills development agency, EdoJobs has extended its internship and apprenticeship programme to youths in Edo North and Central Senatorial Districts, deploying the youths to different organisations to acquire firsthand knowledge of how organisations operate.
The programme is being organised in partnership with the German development agency, the Deutsche Gesellschaft Fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC).
Managing Director, EdoJobs, Ukinebo Dare, who disclosed this to journalists in Benin City, said the extension followed the success of the programme in Edo South.
She said the project is an arm of the Rural Youth Employment (RYE) to tackle unemployment in rural areas.
According to her: “Having done other streams since 2018, which has impacted more than 1,550 youths, we thought it necessary to continue so that other youths can get the opportunity to become relevant in the workforce.
“As it stands, we are currently in stream six. The target for this phase like the previous one is to engage 50 interns and apprentices for a period of three months. The scheme, which began in January and ends in April is for the youths in Edo North and Edo Central.
“The internship and apprenticeship scheme gives qualified candidates having little or no experience in the corporate world the opportunity to work within the organisation for a duration of three months to gain valuable skills.
