SPIRIT of positive competition imbued in pupils of basic schools in Anambra State spurs them to excellence in both curricular and extra-curricular activities local, national and international contests.

Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, stated this in an address he delivered to Anambra schools shortly after they honoured him for his uncommon transformation of basic education in Anambra State during his eight-year tenure in Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.

The event was organised by Anambra State Ministry of Basic Education under the theme: Celebrating Our Eagles, Our Pride.

Speaking after receiving an award presented to him by Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof. Kate Omenugha, on behalf of basic schools in Anambra State, Obiano noted that the cutting edge policies and innovations introduced by his administration in the education sector not only transformed Anambra basic school model into global brands but also has made their products become eagles who will continue to win more laurels for themselves, the state and Nigeria.

Gov. Obiano also commended Omenugha for her ingenuity which, he said, was indispensable in the success story of basic education in Anambra State, by doing her best to instill the spirit of excellence in Anambra students through his administration’s strategic approach.

Earlier while welcoming Gov. Obiano to the event, Prof. Omenugha explained that one of the greatest legacies bequeathed to Anambra students and pupils by the governor was boosting their confidence to the extent that they could compete globally.

The commissioner also explained that Anambra students and pupils are being compared to eagle because they have become tremendous sources of royalty and pride through diadems and prizes they have recently won for the state and Nigeria.
