In Oyo, pupil gets suspension for slapping teacher
OYO State Government, Tuesday, suspended a secondary school pupil, identified as Ojo Roqeeb, of Anglican Commercial Secondary School, Orita-Mefa Ibadan, for allegedly slapping a corps member said to be a teacher in the school.
The state’s Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Rahman Abiodun Abdu- Raheem, handed down the suspension order in a letter given to the parents of the suspended pupil.
Mr Abdu-Raheem during a visit to Anglican Commercial Secondary School, Orita-Mefa Ibadan, frowned at the reported slapping of the corps member teacher by the SSS 2 pupil, Ojo Roqeeb, and ordered an immediate one-month suspension for the pupil.
The commissioner emphasised that in addition to a month suspension, the pupil, on return, would have to apologise to the corps member and sign an undertaking not to repeat such act.
He also said the suspension would serve as a deterrent to other pupils.
While addressing the pupils, the commissioner charged them to be of good behaviour, reiterating that Oyo State Government will not condone any act of indiscipline.
He sternly warned that any pupil caught, acting in uncivilised manner, will henceforth, be dismissed from schools in Oyo State.
Abdu-Raheem also charged teachers to be more dedicated and punctual at work.
