THE newly appointed Chairman of the 52-man Ochanja Market Caretaker Committee, Sunday Aniakor has assured that he would ensure that peace returns to the market before the upcoming market leadership election.

Speaking to newsmen at Onitsha, Anambra State, Aniakor, who was flanked by the Market Secretary, Mr. Josiah Okorie promised the traders and the Anambra State Government that the popular Ochanja Onitsha Market would witness a tremendous facelift and progress within the few months that his committee has to manage the market before the election.

“We shall start by identifying the major entrance gates into the market as a solution to the difficulty experienced by our customers in locating certain areas in Ochanja Market. Secondly, we are going to embark on the excavation of refuse dump which has grown into mountainous heaps beside the market. We shall also extend pipe-borne water to strategic places in the entire market to ensure that both traders and customers have easier access to pipe borne water”, said Aniakor.

Aniakor stated that as a young man, he has the courage and humility to meet stakeholders to hear their grievances and embark on serious reconciliation program that would attract peace and progress in the market before the general election of the executives of the Ochanja Market Association.

According to Aniakor, “I thank God Almighty. I thank Governor Willie Obiano and the Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Wealth Creation, Chief Uchenna Okafor and Ochanja Market stakeholders for an opportunity to serve the traders in Ochanja Market.

“I pray that God will remember every one of us until we get to the next level according to our hearts’ desires. I promise to recognise and carry everybody along in decision making and I am willing to welcome ideas and obey instructions that will be in the interest of both the government and traders”, Aniakor assured.
