PASSENGERS to and from Anambra State have expressed appreciation to the state government for the opportunity to travel by air at the festive season, even as they overcame the horrible experience at the Niger Bridge.

Some passengers from Europe and Abuja, who spoke to National Light said it was like a dream.

“We arrived our home town, Nawfia, in few hours than expected. We normally spend close to 24 hours between Asaba and Onitsha at any festive period.

The newly inaugurated Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport was opened for commercial services on December 7, last year. According to reports, so far, only Air Peace and United Nigeria Airline are landing and taking off at the airport.

Meanwhile, Anambra State Commissioner for Works, Marcel Ifejiofor has stated that the airport has recorded 142 flights with 3865 passengers landing and taking off .

Ifejiofor, who is also the head of the Anambra State Airport Project Committee was quoted as saying that the airport contributed to easing passengers traffic during the festive period.

“The passengers who would have landed at Asaba and Enugu airports flew straight to Umueri, Anambra State.

Anambra State is a hub; there is no place you can’t go to in Nigeria from Anambra State. We are only scratching the surface in terms of activities that will take place here.

Earlier, the Managing Director of Anambra Airport Management Authority, Martin Nwafor was quoted as saying that the service quality has continued to improve, stressing that the regulatory agencies in the aviation sector, including the Nigerian Civil Authority, Nigerian Methologically Agency, Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, among others were domiciled at the airport.
