AS COUNTDOWN to the festive season and yuletide begins, arrangements have been put in place to reposition Anambra State Vigilante Group (AVG) in line with the state’s commitment to security of lives and properties in all the 181 communities.
Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Willie Obiano on Vigilante Matters Chairman of AVG Supervisory Committee, Ikechukwu Aduba, dropped the hints while fielding questions from newsmen in Onitsha, yesterday.
Explaining that policy was predicate on government’s relentless commitment to safe and secure neighbourhoods and public spaces especially the yuletide and year-end festivities, Aduba stated that recent security concerns in parts of the state was another reason to reposition the vigilante service and make its operatives more responsive to emergencies as well as their collaboration with security agencies.
Aduba also used the forum to extend AVG’s unalloyed support to Gov. Willie Obiano in partnering police for round-the-clock security of lives and properties to governor-elect, Prof Charles Soludo.
Noting that AVG as an integral part of the success recorded by Anambra security model under Gov. Obiano, Aduba expressed confidence that Prof. Soludo would consolidate on the gains with the state vigilante service as crucial levers.
Aduba also described Soludo as an international banker par excellence, who he said would not only use his wealth of experience to ensure that Anambra State would continue to build on the sustainable development templates now in place and even surpass expectations.
“But for this to happen, for Soludo to deliver even beyond expectation, all hands must be on deck. Ndi Anambra at home and in the diaspora are hereby enjoined to throw their weight behind Soludo, the governor-elect, because we in AVG are already marching to our duty posts to ensure the state continues to be a national model in security and safety of life and property,” he said.
