More 145 benefit from Anambra’s one-youth-one-skill

ABOUT 145 persons have been enrolled in vocational training under the ongoing one-youth-one-skill empowerment programme of the state government.

  Selected from the 21 local government areas, beneficiaries will go through one-month intensive training along specific vocations of their choice with emphasis on entrepreneurship and skill acquisition.

  They will be trained along three business skills namely: fashion design, hairdressing and leather shoe works.

  Speaking while declaring open the training workshop in Prof Kenneth Dike Central e-Library, Awka on behalf of Gov. Willie Obiano, Permanent Secretary in Ministry of Trade and Commerce, Samuel Ike said the state is being partnered by  Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) in the current batch of beneficiaries.

  According to Ike, government is continuing with the skill acquisition programme in its commitment to ensuring that no Anambra youth is left behind in Gov. Obiano’s devotion to youth employment and self-reliance.

  “We’re not relenting with the goal set for us by Gov. Obiano. That’s why government is continuing with the skill acquisition programme in its commitment to ensuring that no Anambra youth is left behind in youth employment and self-reliance. We know that in creating future entrepreneurs by giving them training and support equipment to enhance their proficiency in business operations today, the state will continue to produce more millionaires,” he said.

  Also speaking, SMEDAN’s Assistant Director of Entrepreneurship Training, Haruna Shuaibu explained that the agency is partnering Anambra because of the state’s comparative advantage in youth development.
