Stray bullet kills 24-year-old man in Anambra



A TRADITIONAL marriage ceremony in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State has turned into mourning as a member of local security agent yesterday, shot and killed a 24 year old only son.

  National Light gathered that the incident took place in Oraifite Street, Enekwasimpu Obosi layout.

  According to an eye witness, the deceased, who was the only son of his family, was killed while serving drinks to some security operatives during a traditional marriage ceremony.

  The eye witness who pleaded anonymity said the groom had pleaded with the deceased to assist him in serving drinks during the celebration of his marriage.

  He explained that while the boy served some security operatives in his mother’s restaurant, suddenly one of them, who probably was tipsy, stood up and shot into the air and the stray bullet hit the boy.

  “The boy suddenly slumped and was rushed to a hospital by the security operatives, including the man who shot him and other sympathisers, where he was confirmed dead by the doctor,” he said, adding that the mother of the deceased hails from Nri, Njikoka Council of the state, but was said not to be around when the incident happened.

  One of the sympathisers, who was at the scene, cursed the suspect, saying: “Just because of free drink, he became mad, pulled the trigger and took a life he can’t create. He should be made to face the wrath of the law, an idiot like him”.

  The sympathiser, who did not give his name, wondered why someone, who doesn’t know how to handle a gun should be given one, lamenting that he has wasted the life of an only son of the family.

When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga said he was not aware of the incident.

  He, however, promised to contact the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area, Mr. Ekuri Remigius for confirmation.
