Group commends Anamabra residents, INEC for successful polls



…Urges election candidates to congratulate Soludo

A GROUP under the aegis of South East Human Rights Situation Room (SHRSR) has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and ndi Anambra for the success of the governorship election held on November 6, 2021.

  In a statement credited  to the convener of the  group, Prof Joy Ezeilo in Enugu, she  praised  ndi Anambra for coming out to vote and for the maturity exhibited in the process in spite of threats and intimidating presence of security men.

 Ezilo, while commending INEC for a job well done said  the election was fair, free and credible besides poor network, incidences of card readers failure in some polling stations .The group further called on all candidates to congratulate the winner of election, Prof Charles Soludo and Soludo to reciprocate the gesture to douse the tension in the state.

  “Let candidates show the spirit of sportsmanship by congratulating the winner and vice versa.

  “We as a people have vested interest in the peace, political progress and social development of the state.

  “In any contest, there must be a winner and looser and the looser should wait for another chance .

 “What really transpired during   the election in the state showed that Anambraians are peaceful and that the state is one of the most stabilised in the country

 “We are happy at the maturity exhibited during  the election in spite  failure of the Bimodatal Voter Accreditation System in many areas the election was smooth and peaceful.

 Ezilo commended the interim reports of journalists and observers which adjudged the election as peaceful and credible, stressing that INEC did a good job.   “We appeal to INEC and other stakeholders to maintain the same spirit in future elections”.
