Gunmen abduct pupils in Edo

TWO pupils of Glory Land Group of Schools in Edo State were on Tuesday kidnapped at 5.35 p.m. on the Igarra-Auchi Road, near Ikpeshi, Akoko Edo Local Government Area of the state.

  The Police Public Relations Officer, Edo State Police Command, SP Kontongs Bello, confirmed the abduction and  said that police operatives, soldiers and vigilantes were  combing bushes  in an effort to rescue the pupils.

  “Two students were kidnapped but efforts are on to rescue them unhurt. Men of the Nigeria Police, soldiers and vigilantes are already combing bushes to rescue the students,” he said.

  It was gathered that the vehicle in which the pupils were travelling in company with other pupils, was intercepted at gunpoint and the abductors dragged the two pupils from the vehicle into a bush.

  They were said to be returning to Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo, after the close of school when they were kidnapped.

  Similarly, a housewife, Memunat Salaudeen, has been arrested by police in Ogun State for allegedly conniving with three others to kidnap her husband for ransom, alleging that her husband was stingy.

  Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said in a statement on Tuesday in Abeokuta that the suspects were arrested on Monday on Papa/Itori Road.

  They were arrested during a stop-and-search operation by a Federal Highway patrol team, led by Inspector Sunday Imohiosen.

 He explained that while searching the suspects, a cutlass and a new strong rope were recovered from them.

  “In the course of interrogation, the three of them confessed that it was one woman, who was later identified as Memunat that gave them N8,000 to buy a cutlass and a rope strong enough to tie a human being.

  “They further told the police that the woman said that the only way she could get money from her husband, whom she accused of being very stingy in spite of the fact that he has money, was to kidnap him.” He said the woman admitted to the crime during interlogation.
