THE Traditional Ruler of Ukwulu in Dunukofia Local Government Area, Anambra State, Igwe Peter Aniukwu Uyanwa, has described the Anambra International Cargo and Passengers Airport, Umueri, as one of the indelible legacy projects of the Willie Obiano-led administration.
Igwe Uyanwa, who made the assertion in his palace while delivering his 2021 New Yam Festival message also stated that the recognition of Anambra State as one of the oil producing states in Nigeria by the federal government had no doubt launched the state to the world map.
He noted that the eight years leadership of Governor Obiano is loaded with vintage projects scattered across the length and breadth of the state and prayed God to bless the state with another governor in the November 6 gubernatorial election who would uphold the footprints and consolidate Obiano’s leadership qualities, for complete turnaround of the state.
The monarch, who described celebration of New Yam Festival in Igboland as a symbol of unity, challenged the people of the community to embrace peace, unity of purpose and oneness in a quest to engender an enduring development in the community, noting that progress cannot thrive in any community characterised by rancour, hatred and bitterness.
While performing the symbolic cutting of roasted and unroasted new yam before the unprecedented mammoth crowd of personalities, who came from within and outside the community to celebrate with him, Igwe Uyanwa likened the mystery behind planting and germination of yam to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and debunked the belief by some individuals that the New Yam Festival is fetish.
The Traditional Ruler, who spoke among other things, prayed God to bless the community with more bumper harvests by next year, genuine wealth, good health and healthy lives, expressing belief that in the end of the event, the unmarried young ladies in the community will get married and the barren wombs would smile home with their newborn babies and the sick would be healed.
In their separate speeches, a former Vice-Chancellor, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, Professor Fidelis Okafor; a former President-General of the community, Ichie Walter Okafor and many other illustrious sons of the community described New Yam Festival as a celebration of harvest time by the people of Igbo race, stressing that the festival had ushered in a lot of developments in the area.
They expressed unalloyed support to their monarch, Igwe Uyanwa, pointing out that he had restored absolute peace, unity and tranquility in the community through his unrelenting determination.
Earlier in a homely during a Holy Mass that preceded the event, at the Igwe’s palace, Rev Fr Dr Greg Eke of the Department of Education Foundation, Nnamdi Azikiwet University, Awka, thanked God for the gift of Igwe Uyanwa to the people of Ukwulu community, saying that God had used the monarch to attract a lot of developments to the community.
The event which was well attended by enormous candidates of political parties for the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state, featured presentation of gifts to Igwe Uyanwa by the people of community, his friends and well-wishers as homage; masquerade performance, cultural dances of various groups, conferment of chieftaincy tittle on the deserved individuals by the monarch and presentation of award of honour to Igwe Uyanwa by the students of Faulty of Law, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, among others.
