Anambra receives returnees from Jos
ANAMBRA State Government has received a 3rd set of Anambra indigenes that were evacuated from Jos, the Plateau State capital, torn by civil disturbances.
They were received at the Godwin Ubaka Okeke (GUO) Bus Terminal, at the UNIZIK Junction, Awka.
Receiving them, Gov. Willie Obiano said his government factored their welfare and would continue to ensure better livelihood for them.
The governor explained that this was the third set of Anambra citizens evacuated from Jos by a different company, but first to be evacuated by GUO in partnership with the state government.
“Government cannot wait to jeopardise their lives because of the need for prompt intervention.
“Now you are here, your safety is assured. Your personal data and other information will be collected for other necessary action.”
The governor was represented by Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr C Don Adinuba.
The National Chairman, Anambra State Association of Town Unions, (ASATU), Mr Titus Akpaudo, a lawyer, said the evacuation was part of Gov. Obiano’s intervention to ensure safety of life and property for ndi Anambra.
Mr Akpaudo emphasised that every expense had been taken care of by the government and would continue to provide a friendly atmosphere to ensure better standards of living.
The Chairman, Anambra Welfare Association in Jos, Mazi Obikwelu Nnanwetanma commended the government for the prompt response, stressing that the environment in Jos had been unbearable for people.
“For two weeks, our lives have been at risk, we are grateful for Gov Obiano’s magnanimity.”
Mrs Lillian Ifeoma Aniebonan from Awkuzu, a former staff member of the University of Jos, said she lost her job on account of a crisis after a stay of 15 years in the city.
“I was attacked and my car stolen. We are happy with the governor. He saved our lives. Some who were not so lucky perished. I thank God we are alive today.’’
