TWITTER has returned into operations in Nigeria social media spectrum.

The development came unannounced as Twitter subscribers have continued to gain access into the platform with ease, yesterday.

One of the subscribers who spoke under anonymity says, he was surfing some social media platforms and instinctively clicked on his Twitter account and the portal opened.

It will be recalled that Nigerian government officially shutdown Twitter operations in Nigeria on June 5, after the social media platform deleted tweets from President Muhammadu Buhari  for violating its rules.

The ban drew huge   condemnation from Amnesty International] as well as the British and Canadian Missions and the Swedish Embassy in Nigeria and civil society organisations

Two domestic organisations, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP)] and the Nigerian Bar Association indicated intent to challenge the ban in court, while Twitter itself called the ban ‘deeply concerning’.

Former U.S. President, Donald Trump praised the ban. “Congratulations to the country of Nigeria, who just banned Twitter because they banned their president”, Trump said.

Nigeria’s Cultural Minister, Lai Mohammed promised that the ban would be lifted once Twitter submits to local licencing, registration and conditions.

“It will be licenced by the broadcasting commission, and must agree not to allow its platform to be used by those who are promoting activities that are inimical to the corporate existence of Nigeria,”.  Mohammed said.
