PDP crisis: NWC names Akinwonmi chairman, court restores Secondus
FORMER Deputy National Chairman (South) People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Yemi Akinwonmi, has been appointed Acting National Chairman of the party.
National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, disclosed Akinwonmi’s appointment in a press conference after a closed-door meeting of PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja, yesterday.
Ologbondiyan said that the party unanimously nominated Akinwonmi to take over from Secondus in obedience to the judgement of a Rivers State High Court that ordered Secondus to stop parading himself as National Chairman of PDP, earlier in the week.
According to him, an emergency meeting of PDP’s National Executive Council (NEC) was also scheduled to hold tomorrow.
“Elder Yemi Akinwonmi was unanimously affirmed as Acting National Chairman. We will be holding our caucus and another NWC meeting tomorrow preparatory to holding our National Executive Council meeting at 12 noon tomorrow,” he said.
Meanwhile, a Kebbi State High Court has restored Uche Secondus as National Chairman of People’s Democratic Party ( PDP), pending the determination of the substantive suit.
Court document made available to journalists in Abuja, last night, indicated that Justice Nusirat Umar gave the interim order in a suit filed by Yahaya Usman, Abubakar Mohammed and Bashar Suleman as Claimants/Applicant, with Secondus and the PDP are the defendants/respondents
It will be recalled that a Rivers State High Court, in Degema, had on Monday, restrained Secondus from functioning as the PDP chairman pending the determination of a suit against him by some members of the party in the state.
