Ma Ikegbunam goes home at 91
REMAINS of the late Ma Nkwodunma Catherine Ikegbunam, (nee Mmuo) has been laid to rest in her family compound at Umunono – Umuanum Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The burial service had both the religious, social groups, friends, sympathisers, her paternal relations, who came to commiserate with the family on their mothers death.
Commenting on the life and times of the deceased, the representative of the Vicar of St, Michael and All Angels Anglican Church, Nibo, Venerable David Obiagboso, described her as a committed Christian who lived a life for many.
He enjoined Christians to be mindful of their lifestyles, so that their past would not be a torment to the living, because life is not owned by any man other than God.”I am thanking this family on the way they stood by their mother for such long years of 91.”
He cited one of the books written by Julius Nyerere, of Tanzania, where he acknowledged the uniqueness of the African culture, in terms of relationships from the maternal and paternal sides to second d and third generation, and supported it with a Bible verse in Mathew 5v7, that says,” blessed are those that are kind in heart, for they will be shown mercy”.
First son of the deceased, Okechukwu Ikegbunam, went down memory lane, saying that his mother was born into a family that practiced paganism but was given a good training and upon her marriage, she embraced Christianity that remolded her life the more. ”I am not praising her but she was exceptional, she didn’t segregate. She is a mother with a golden heart and she lived a very good life”.
Her last daughter, Chinwe Anizoba, who spoke on behalf of the remaining siblings , described the meaning of ”Adiginije” the nickname of their mother as being indispensable.
She likened her mother as ”Dorcas in the Bible for “being generous’ and that made her to be outstanding in taking care of the needy.”
