New PSN exco assures elimination of fake drugs
…Visits Anambra HOS
THE newly elected executive members of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Anambra Chapter has assured government of their support in elimination of substandard and fake pharmaceutical products in the drug distribution chain.
They gave the assurance during familiarisation and advocacy visit to the Head of Service (HOS), Harry Udu, on at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat Complex, Awka.
The newly elected chairman of the society, MrJosephat Obasi, who led the delegation, in his speech, thanked the HOS for the reception as he offered a listening ear to the society’s prayers.
He noted the recent promotion of their members in the civil service and the appointment of one of them, Mr Victor Nwizu to the position of Director, Pharmacy, Hospital Management Board.
Mr Obasi noted improvements on the welfare of their members in the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH) as some major stride by the HOS to the society.
He pointed out the approval and creation of pharmacist’s consultancy cadre for pharmacists by the federal government and prayed that same office be created in the Anambra Civil Service.
Mr Obasi pleaded that Anambra Government should look into the anomaly that stalled pharmacists in grade level 15 without any further advancement.
Obasi noted that this issue had remained a discouragement to pharmacists in seeking jobs in government, adding that whereas other professionals advance up to the highest cadre; pharmacists were stalled in GL15.
Responding, the HOS, Harry Udu assured the group that the government was not relenting in ensuring that everyone was accommodated equally.
He pointed out that the medical profession had its peculiar challenges which the administration was working toward finding a lasting solution.
Udu then assured them that the creation of pharmacist’s consultancy cadre was agreed upon at a meeting he was a part of at the federal level and as such, would be replicated and implemented in the state service.
The civil service boss urged them to continue to work diligently bearing in mind that this administration had them in mind and that more offices and arms would be created to accommodate their requests for effectiveness in the medical practice in the state.
The secretary of PSN and Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Anambra State, Mrs Edith Egbuonu thanked the HOS for receiving them and showing understanding to their prayers.
